Our Youth Program includes three progressive levels – 1A, 1B, and 2 – designed for optimal development of dance technique and artistry. Level 1A students are typically between the ages of 5-7, while 1B and 2 students are typically between the ages of 7-11.
All youth division levels work on skills such as posture, floor barre, strength & stretch. Level 1B and Level 2 students will also begin working at the barre and on basic leaps and turns. Students also learn short dance routines of various styles that help improve their recall, coordination, and musicality.
Stage experience is an integral part of a student’s dance training, instilling confidence and poise in our blossoming dancers. All HSArts dance students participate in our Winter Wonders production in December and Spring Spectacular showcase in June. Students may also have the opportunity to perform at a number of on-campus and community events.
Students are evaluated at the end of each semester. A student’s age, skill level, and hours of dance class per week can all play a role in determining his/her progress. It is standard for a student to spend 1-3 years for each level.
